Real-World Testing: Precision Beam in a Touring Stage Application

In a recent indoor touring setup for a 12-meter-wide modular stage, we integrated two Betopper LB150 units into the upstage lighting truss at a mounting height of approximately 4.2 meters. The venue featured controlled ambient light and was filled with a fine haze layer to enhance volumetric beam visibility. The goal was to evaluate the LB150’s suitability for high-impact aerial effects within limited ceiling height and moderate throw distance (8–12 meters).

The LB150’s 150W LED engine, paired with its proprietary 10mm collimating lens, produced a sharply defined 1.72° beam with exceptional intensity and clarity. Measurements taken from a calibrated lux meter at 3 meters confirmed output levels exceeding 115,000 lux—comparable to larger 300W beam units, but with significantly reduced weight and footprint.

DMX integration was tested via ChamSys MQ70 in both 12- and 14-channel configurations. Pan and tilt operations were executed with 16-bit precision and maintained consistent repeatability during rapid sequences and smooth fades. The fixture’s response latency was negligible, and movements tracked fluidly even during fast synchronized sweeps across multiple units.

In terms of optics, the color wheel transitioned cleanly with minimal perceptible delay. Saturation depth in magenta, cyan, and deep blue was notably strong, while the integrated fixed gobo wheel provided well-defined mid-air textures. Combined with the dual-layer rotating prism, the LB150 delivered complex beam splitting and spatial layering effects without the need for auxiliary fixtures.

From an installation perspective, the unit’s lightweight chassis (6.2 kg) and compact form factor facilitated quick rigging with standard M12 clamp hardware. Addressing and setup were intuitive via the backlit LCD interface, which remained legible even under low-light front-of-house conditions.

Thermal performance was stable across a three-hour live tech rehearsal. Internal active cooling operated at a consistent low-noise level, with no thermal throttling or output degradation observed. This ensured quiet operation even during scenes involving open microphones or acoustic performance segments.

Strengths & Application Scenarios

Its lightweight body, power efficiency, and full-feature set make it well-suited for mobile professionals who need maximum effect with minimal footprint.

Not Sure If a Beam Light Is Right for You?

Among moving head lights, Beam fixtures like the LB150 stand out for their ultra-narrow angles and high-intensity output—perfect for punchy aerial effects and crisp mid-air beams.
But how do they compare to other types?
If you're looking to fill space with rich color and soft washes, a Wash light like the LM1915R or LM0740 may be a better fit.
Need pattern projection and spotlight-style control? Go for a Spot light with gobo wheels, like the LM120 Demon’s Eye
Want maximum versatility? A Hybrid light combines all these features in one, like the CLB260-O.
For compact beam power and ease of setup, though, the LB150 hits the sweet spot—especially for DJs, mobile stages, or club installs.
